Functional martial arts and mobility training through Tong Bei kung fu taught by Rosa Mei. Tong Bei literally translates as "through the back." Based on the movement of a white gibbon, the style emphasizes long, swinging arm techniques, momentum and animal mobility to develop connected power.
Form not only equals function but should be created through function. We train to see targets, judge distance and push against trees or punching bags and use momentum to fall into positions instead of just holding static poses in space. Correct use of torque drives momentum. Vocalisation generates power from the dan tian and coordinate stepping with striking.
Rosa Mei, senior disciple of Tongbei kung fu master Zhang Xin Bin, has over 30 years experience in martial arts and is a former member of the US wushu team, a black belt in aikido and also trained in mantis kung fu, kali, Lama Pai and tai chi. She loves all swords and weapons.
