These two verses (Romans 8:1-2) I find I keep coming back to amidst my own struggles with mental health, anxiety, and the pressure to perform or seek approval. As someone who has battled with anxiety, OCD & perfectionism, I can relate to the weight of being consumed by my own thoughts & feelings. Life can get messy but in Romans 8:1-2, I've found a hope that keeps me grounded even through times of doubt, struggle & uncertainty. These verses remind me that despite my challenges and imperfections, I am not condemned - āthere is no condemnationā. My identity & worth isn't defined by others' opinions or even my own expectations/standards I put on myself. But in Christ, Iām not only loved unconditionally, but Iāve also been given a new identity and have been given freedom, life & power by the Spirit. Godās opinion of me is what matters, and through the cross He delights in me because He sees me through the lens of His grace & mercy.
I hope this song snippet encourages you wherever you are in your journey with mental health, and that youāll find freedom and hope through these verses. And if youāre struggling right now, remember that youāre not alone and your struggles donāt define you, but Godās love and grace does - and thereās no condemnation for those who are in Christ.
(This is the second episode in my new series of live acoustic sessions. In this series I share song snippets inspired by scripture, with the hope of bringing comfort & encouragement to those who may be struggling with anxiety and depression.)
