Thereās still time to get into the Christmas spirit, with this rousing take on a classic song that we recorded while so inebriated that there was no way we could ever have done a second take. Epic.

The good news is that I am uploading the next deep dive Paper Cartridges video.
The bad news is that it wonāt be finished uploading until approximately June 2031.
Geez, Iāll be well into my 40ās before this finishesā¦ dang Iām getting old!

I still canāt really quite believe that 20,000 people actually are interested in the super nerdy videos I make! But itās pretty awesome! Thanks for helping me get here!
With the niche content that I make, I know Iāll never be one of the ābigā channels, and in a way, thatās sort of a relief, because I can stay focused on projects that interest me, rather than trying to appeal to larger audiences and keep growing.
Iām deployed for another 4-ish months and I have a huge list of video projects I want to do when I get home. And the mailman has apparently kept delivering a bunch of musket-shaped packages to the houseā¦

New microphones just arrived! I know youāve been complaining about the really awful audio quality on my videos. New Rode microphones should fix this!
Now youāll be able to hear the creaky warble of my voice in crystal clear fidelity.
Unfortunatelyā¦ the new mics will not do anything for the videos Iāve already recorded last year. I actually bought a somewhat expensive set of microphones, and I was utterly disappointed at the audio quality. They worked really great outdoors but are muffled and stuffy indoors for some reason. Anyways, Iāve tested these Rode microphones and wow, what an improvement!

Iām slowly working on the next project on the bullets and cartridges for the M1854 Lorenz.
Itās going to be a fascinating deep dive into one of the most neglected systems in the paper cartridge era.
But it is taking longer than usual, because I am still deployed and have had precious little free time. Hopefully in a week or two, itāll be done!

I truly, honestly am astonished to reach 10k subscribers, considering the niche and incredibly nerdy content I make, but thank you very much sincerely from the bottom of my heart. I really enjoy making the videos for the channel, and Iām glad that other people with staggeringly low standards for content quality seem to enjoy them too.
A 10k subscriber special is coming. I am shooting it tomorrowā¦ but I only have one flint, so keep your fingers crossed that I can finish the shoot before the flint needs replaced!

OKā¦ what do you want me to do? When I make a video with a Civil War era musket and shoot from the benchrest, everyone runs out and says āwell that doesnāt tell us anything, soldiers didnāt shoot from nice benchrests in battle, anybody can shoot good from a bench. This channel is stupid!ā
So I shoot the next video standing unsupported, and everyone runs out and says āwell that doesnāt tell us anything, you need to shoot from the bench to really know the accuracy of the gun. This channel is stupid!ā
Therefore I throw the question to youā¦ bench or standing? What do you want?
(Personally I enjoy standing moreā¦ and itās definitely more satisfying when you get a good group standing. Plus, itās a lot less up and down movement with muzzleloaders!)

Just noticed the channel passed 8k subscribers. Wow! Thatās incredible. I canāt believe this many (presumably) sane, rational people are interested in my longwinded nerdy experiments and discussions about old guns and tactics and battles.
Thanks for your encouragement and Iāll keep working on more projects to share!

Itās been pretty stressful lately but I know the cureā¦ and involves punching .69cal holes through paper targets at the range.

Help me decide what video to do next. And help me pass the time while I sit in Chicago waiting for my connecting flight.

Thanks for checking out my channel! Here you'll find historical shooting with a focus on 19th century black powder military rifles, with the occasional earlier smoothbore or later smokeless powder rifle mixed in, for good measure.
Things you will see here: lots of long range rifle shooting with historically correct ammunition, and an emphasis on representing these arms in the historical context they were developed in. I try to balance the history and context of a particular rifle with the fun part of shooting it!
What you WON'T see here: modern stuff (there's a ton of other great channels about that), shooting aluminum cans at short range (again, lots of other great channels doing that), and people who don't know what they're talking about.
Thanks for stopping by!
