Located in the northern part of Yamagata Prefecture, Salmon River Village is a farming village with a population of about 4,000. In the middle of the village, surrounded by vast greenery, runs the "Clear Salmon River," and every year in October, many salmon come back to the village.
The village is also blessed with tourist resources such as "Kosugi no Oosugi" (a.k.a. Totoro no Ki), a large tree over 1,000 years old, "Salmon River Kabuki," a 250-year-old rural kabuki performance, and "Hanezawa Hot Springs," known for its "Bishin no Yu" (hot springs).
