Here's an amazing comic with great viewpoints regarding AI art. From hobbyist to commercial artist etc. And yes, animation is often outsourced here in the PH because of our third world currency.

This is a common pitfall that most people believe when encountering AI. If an AI can beat a chess grandmaster, that doesn't mean "chess is so formulaic like bruh look even robots can do it"

While pop music tend to be formulaic, it doesn't mean it's easy to reproduce (even by an AI). It just means the AI is that good, not that the source material it's copying is "so basic an AI could do it"

This guy will be quite surprised once he understands that an AI can copy his voice and some scammer can call his mother using an AI voice clone and steal their bank information. Does that mean his voice is "basic and formulaic"?

This is a fairly new paradigm because back then we thought machines could only do basic and repetitive tasks, but with machine learning, that's not true anymore. Every cognitive and creative task is up in the air with machine learning.

So I've recently put out a poll asking how you guys feel about AI art, and I'll be completely transparent here: I'm going to be releasing a series of tutorials, more in-depth about AI art in the coming weeks. But I've always felt like I'm going to disappoint a huge portion of my viewers...

So this is just my way of explaining how I feel about AI art and my reasons for making such tutorials. This isn't supposed to make you love AI art, even myself, I know that AI art has lots of problems and can cause lots of harm. But hopefully, I can persuade some of you to consider it a bit more to be a part of your artistic career later in the future.

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being I despise AI art and 10 being I love AI art. I would be around a 4. I think it's fascinating technology, but it's riddled with lots of issues.

I wouldn't say it's illegal, but it definitely is unfair that some company can just use your data, the portfolio pieces you've poured your life into, just so they can make a slightly worse version of you but for a million times cheaper and faster.

I'm all for proper use of data, proper handling, consent, permission. All these things are important, and that's why I think Karla Ortiz' party and their movement, while it has its flaws which I talked about in my video about Adobe Firefly, they have pushed this boulder to a direction where it's hurting fewer people. And that's noble and admirable either way.

But I've always felt like waiting for this massive systemic change so that AI companies respect our data, waiting for a bill to be passed against generative AI, waiting for your country to adopt those laws, waiting for the internet to abide by those laws. It's a bit unproductive. It's like you're betting on a wonderful future that may or may not come. So I'd rather just focus on stuff you can do right now so that you're able to minimize the damage of this technology to your career.

I also feel like we're running short on time. We need to take action before it gets worse. I've been hearing more and more stories about companies implementing AI into their pipeline.

For example, my girlfriend works for a company that sells travel accessories, and she's been told to use this AI website they found where it can train AI on specific garments, clothes, accessories, and put it on a model. No real photoshoot required, no model, and photographer to hire... Companies are always looking for ways to make more money, and you better believe these executives are very much looking into generative AI so they don't have to hire employees anymore.

And I also have friends who work at Canva, and Canva of course just launched their AI tool that can pretty much do the stuff we already know AI can do. I'm assuming graphic designers who work at Canva are encouraged to use it to boost productivity. Adobe just released Firefly, but it's not out to the public just yet. Bing Chat can now also generate images using a more advanced version of Dall E.

So, everyone is being given tools so they can use AI more conveniently. We can't wait for legislation or the kind hearts of activists who are fighting for artist rights. The technology is simply too fast, and the ideal solution we want is way too slow.

It leaves me with the conclusion that this is something we need to learn, otherwise we're going to be part of this next wave of layoffs that are about to happen.

That's why AI will now be a normal part of my library of content. This doesn't mean painting videos will go away. I still very much enjoy painting, and the fact that AI can do it better than me won't stop me from painting just for fun. So you don't need to worry about that.

And of course, lots of art fundamentals can be applied to AI art. You can improve your own generations by having a rich knowledge of composition, color theory, etc. The most beautiful AI art creations you've seen on the internet were probably made by a person who has some experience in painting or photography because right now, artists are still leading the charge. They know how to make their generations look absolutely amazing. You don't know how many people ask questions on the AI art subreddit or Discord asking things like "Why are your generations so great but mine aren't?" So people who have zero knowledge in art still have a long way to go.

So that's my general stance regarding AI art. For the people who'll stay, thanks for sticking around. I hope you understand where I'm coming from, and you enjoy the videos I'll be putting out soon. And for the other ones, they've probably already clicked away or unsubscribed, and I'm okay with that. I'd rather be fully transparent to you guys rather than just act like everything's okay.

Was shocked from a conversation I had with a friend studying Fine Arts, a niche market was pretty much wiped because of AI...

Friend: Because of AI, there are now fewer or almost no commissions for 2D illustrations on Reddit.
You: Once it surpasses a certain performance threshold, it's better to use AI instead of humans, which could result in mass unemployment.
Friend: Unlike pre-pandemic, when there used to be a lot more commissions.

Hey! Just set up a discord server, thought there should be a place where we can gather around etc. I'm afraid of bot raids/spammers so you'll need a verified phone to be able to interact, not sure if it's the best solution so comment below if it's too strict/if some of you don't have discord on their phones and I'll look for another way to deter bots/spammers. I'll be making a series soon about art and business advice: getting a job, passion vs money, etc. Would you guys be interested in that?
