Dr. Md Shajedur Rahman Shawon is a medically trained early-career epidemiologist currently working in the Centre for Big Data Research in Health at UNSW. He completed a doctorate degree in Population Health in 2020 from the University of Oxford. He also completed an MSc in Epidemiology degree from Karolinska Institute, Sweden in 2016. He studied medicine in the top-ranked medical school (Dhaka Medical College) in Bangladesh and also received a Master of Public Health degree. Dr. Shawon received further advanced training in diabetes research from the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), in genetic epidemiology from the University of Bristol, and in global health research for non-communicable diseases from University of Oxford. He has researched different chronic diseases (cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, obesity) using linked large-scale healthcare data from Australia, UK, and Sweden. He is an elected Fellow of the UK Royal Society for Public Health.
