Hey #StarshipAddicts!
Sorry for the delay between episodes. I have been writing the script for this upcoming investigation for the last 2-3 months. This is a topic that I have wanted to discuss for nearly a full year so I needed to do things differently this time around. I decided to take a trip to Starbase this week to gather the remaining evidence needed and also to film a lot of things that I would normally use a green screen for.
In the future, I will find ways of continuing to put out content in the meantime between episodes. I post a ton of Starship updates on my twitter account daily (twitter.com/CSI_Starbase) but I realize that a lot of you do not use twitter. With that being said, I will start splitting away some of the things I would normally post to twitter, and share them here instead.
So lets start off with a bit of heavy speculation!!!
There are currently 3 large horizontal cryogenic storage tanks on their way from SpaceX's Pad39a Starship tank farm. They were removed and are currently being transported to Brownsville. So where are they going?
I have had a feeling for several months now that SpaceX is having problems with the methane side of the Orbital Tank farm. There have been a significant number of CH4 pumps that have been replaced over the last year and the issue doesn't seem to be going away. Without going into detail about what I believe is the cause, the more important thing is, I can't come up with a solution that doesn't involve shutting the methane side of the tank farm down for several months. Obviously, that puts the entire Starship program on hold if that were to occur.
So is it possible that SpaceX could build a completely new methane tank farm instead? This would allow them to continue testing during the process of construction. Once complete they shut down for just a few weeks in order to tie it in to the existing pipework for the OLM and Integration tower.
Well, check out this amateur quality shot I took during today's flyover with @RGVAerialPhotography . If you draw a straight line from the launch mount, through the tower, and over to the left edge of this image, you will see a rather large square base that has been built up higher then all the surrounding ground work. That sure looks like a great place to start a new tank farm. Directly behind the tower, shielded from explosions and Super Heavy Booster engine exhaust.
Here's another option to consider....
There is a slim possibility that the 3rd Starship Launch tower which is currently under construction in Florida, could actually be destined for Starbase, TX. This is the only SpaceX site showing any signs of ground work that should be expected for this 3rd tower. What are the chances those tower sections will be shipped to Starbase as well??
Remember, this is pure speculation! Feel free to voice your opinion in the comments!
