âThis Old Guitarâ OUT NOW!!
John Denver was always playing in the car on my familyâs road trips out to Colorado every summer so finally getting to cover one of his songs is a dream come true.
This song has always felt like it was autobiographical because during high school I was falling in love with guitar at the same time I was falling in love with the girl that would become my wife. Which leads me to explain the cover artâŠ
The dude on the cover is my wifeâs grandfather, Frank White. He passed away of cancer a few years before I came into the picture. From the stories Iâm told he was a gem of man and a warm soul. A guyâs guy. A dudeâs dude. I wish so bad I could have met him.
When I first started dating my wife I would go to her house and see this old guitar case propped up in the corner. It was awhile before I got the courage up to ask if I could open it. When I finally did, I found the guitar that you see there on the cover; an early 1950s Gibson J50. I about fell over.
Over the years, every time Iâd go to my wifeâs familyâs house I would find the guitar and strum for hours. Itâs one of the best sounding guitars Iâve ever played. That was until about 2 years ago when my mother in law gave me permission to take it out with me on the road. I havenât put it down.
Thanks to everyone involved in the making of this song. And I canât wait for you to get to see this guitar with me out there on the road. Cheers everyone!

A native son of Arkansas, JD Clayton delivers a timeless form of country-rock thatâs wholly the product of his environment: down-to-earth, deliberately unhurried, touched with a carefree ease thatâs undeniably infectious. The Fort Smith-bred singer/songwriter returned to his hometown and immersed himself in the making of an adventurous new album that soon led to his signing with Rounder Records. With equal parts soulful self-reflection and wildly colorful storytelling, Blue Sky Sundays immediately transports the audience into a world that moves at its own exhilarating rhythmâand ultimately reveals an artist of hard-won character and singular authenticity.
Recorded at the legendary Sound Emporium Studios and mixed by seven-time Grammy Award winner Vance Powell (Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton), Blue Sky Sundays ornaments its free-flowing sound with plenty of ear-catching sonic details, each crafted with a thoughtful spontaneity.
