I went on a group trip in April that was a little unique:a Black and brown women's only social group I joined when I moved to New York City! And by "joined" I mean I saw them on Instagram, I signed up for their website, I saw they had a trip, and I booked that Miami trip all within 48 hours 🤠

I went backpacking in Iceland for my first solo trip at 17 y/o. I’m turning 29 next week and I’ve traveled 50+ countries—16 of them solo. Here are a few of the places I've been and some life lessons I've picked up on the journey:
🇭🇷 Being solo in Croatia taught me you truly never know until you go yourself.
My image of Croatia from social media was party central: Yacht Week, raves, drunk backpackers. But a month in Zagreb changed that. So peaceful. Extremely solo travel safe. Some of the best Italian food of my life (they share a border!) I never would have guessed and I'm so glad I went myself.
🇮🇹 Being solo in Italy taught me to not live in fear.
At the end of my girl's trip I met a guy... as one does 🙊 He asked me to extend my stay and travel with him. How did Mamma Mia and Taken rush my head at the same time? Was it OK? Was this the best or worst decision of my life? I stilled my mind and tried to discern if I could trust this person... yes. We went through Amalfi, Positano, Capri, Naples... MAGIC. Sometimes things literally just work out. Also for us women: intuition is everything.
🇲🇽 Going to Mexico taught me solo ≠ lonely.
I arrived not knowing a soul and left with a HUGE community of digital nomads, other Black travelers and solo female travelers, and ofc local Mexican friends. I was "solo" but at salsa classes in the park, outings, hikes, and dinners almost every day. If you travel solo, you're really only solo when you WANT to be
📸 Finally, solo travel taught me to never be shamed out of documenting my life
These photos and videos are my most precious possessions. The memories come flooding back. It reminds me "I could feel like that again! it's still in reach" It's invaluable. You can live in the moment AND get the photo
Solo travel transformed my world. It’s taught me that there is usually help around if you ask. A party of 1 can get a table at almost any restaurant, anytime. That soul connections are real, especially in friendships. And most importantly: we never feel ready, we BECOME ready for the things we want most
Traveling solo has truly allowed me to live a thousand lives. I hope to help make travel more accessible financially, logistically, and confidence-wise for other women so they can pack light to and maximize their life.
