I've heard many time that Deadlock has no roles, you simply pick who you want and play to enable them. Certainly for this testing period this is true! However I do think as we begin to get more experience with the game, more characters, as well as proper drafting, we will see firmer roles start to take shape. Here are my initial impressions of what that could look like.
The characters here have been sorted into 3 roles, but also have subdivisions when they're able to fulfill multiple.
Carry characters are those that scale well with items and have the means to farm efficiently. A Carry character might be willing to skip a fight or two if it means getting ahead enough in economy and out scaling the lobby.
Tanks are your beefy characters who are able to annoy the enemy team while making killing them difficult. Sometimes they're initiators, sometimes they're utility.
Your fighting characters either bring great CC that they want to leverage to catch people out, or they have good damage that isn't conducive to farming neutral camps efficiently.
For a couple examples:
Seven's 1 and 3 abilities are incredibly well suited for taking neutral camps and pushing waves incredibly quickly, but he also has a 2 that's a point and click AoE stun, and an ultimate that can completely lock down an area. He's perfectly capable of either fighting or farming at any stage of the game.
Shiv is able to become incredibly tanky due to his ability to stagger incoming damage, but if he doesn't build any damage at all he isn't threatening enough to force the enemies attention on him.
Does this mean this is all these characters are capable of? Of course not! These are early days, and we're all learning more about this game every day. We're also in a rapidly changing unranked alpha, so any notion of enforcing these roles should be disregarded. While this is how these characters are taking shape in my mind, I absolutely encourage you to build full tank CDR knife throw Haze if that's what your heart desires.

The more I play Deadlock the more I realise how little I know about it. Still so much to be learned.

So why were there no 2XKO guides? I talked a lot here and in my discord about making guides for the game, but over the course of the alpha I didn't put any out. What gives? I wanted to address this but didn't think it made sense as it's own video, so hopefully this will suffice.
Long story short, I decided it wasn't really worth it. There were 3 key factors. First, I ran a poll that indicated only about 20% of my audience made it into the alpha, and even after the later waves of invites that number probably only made it to 30%. Second, the alpha was only going to be up for about 2 weeks, and the devs frequently communicated that this was an early build that would change drastically before it's final release. And last, other pro players who had time with the game on the ground floor of events, or were in better condition during the alpha period, were putting out guides that were well beyond my understanding of the characters and systems at that time. All of this meant that I would be putting out redundant guides that were relevant to a small amount of people for a small amount of time.
While I enjoyed the alpha, I wasn't so head over heels with the game that it absorbed all my attention. I think the best way to put it is "I like where Riot is heading, but I don't love where we're at." I'm still very much looking forward to the game's full release next year.
More content on various games to come, thanks everyone!

I hope you all had as much fun watching Evo as I did! What was your favorite moment this weekend?

I really enjoyed the HxH Nen Impact showcase, and I think the launch roster is pretty solid! If I had one complaint, I really wish motion inputs were in the game. I understand their priority is pad players, but it would be so easy to make it comfortable for both pad players and stick users. Motion inputs would make the special button optional, and lower the total necessary buttons from 7 back to the standard 6.
I also really wish Neferpitou was in the launch roster, only having one Chimera Ant is a little disappointing. Here's hoping the game is a success and we see some DLC.
What do you think? Have you planned out your team? I'm going Killua/Meruem/Somebody. There are so many characters that could take that third slot, I need to get my hands on this game!

I play video games and then tell other people they should to.
