"I can see through mountains, watch me disappear. I can even touch the sky. Swallowing colors of the sound I hear..." One of my favorite lines ever 🎶 🤘 and personally relatable. Do you recognize the blaze in this photo? There might be a related video coming soon...

Friends, the last week has been incredibly challenging in a variety of ways. The devastation left by the hurricane has touched us all. It's natural to feel a mix of emotions, including survivor's guilt for some. It's okay to feel this way, but it's also important to remember that taking care of yourself is not selfish—it's necessary. For me, hiking and the outdoors is not just selfcare; it is SOULCARE! I have wanted to be out on the trails, but felt I should be helping with hurricane relief instead. Where I have landed is that if I don't take care of myself, it is really hard to help others appropriately. I am sure for a lot of you, just like me, there is a whole lot of "life" going on, in addition to ongoing efforts for hurricane support and relief. You CAN do both. You CAN express empathy and help AND take care of yourself. Yesterday, I was able to drive to Western North Carolina to assist in a particular way. This morning, I got up early and went to Latta Nature Preserve for a trail run. For me, both were needed, both were soulcare.
Navigating this time can be difficult. Some short thoughts that may help all of you - Help others as you can. Talk it out. Be present and appreciative of where you are personally. Connect with nature. - All are part of healing.
Stay strong, stay safe, and take care of yourselves. 💚

As part of Hike for Healing 2024, Carolina Mountain Club and the Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (Mountains-to-Sea Trail ) will be leading several guided hikes. These hikes offer a chance to connect with nature and each other, creating a space for thought-provoking personal reflections and/or potential meaningful conversations about understanding and community building.

My name is Lee but on the trail, on YouTube, and sometimes even at work I am known as Boots. I love my family, I love the outdoors, and I love hiking and exploring. This channel is just a way to share some of my adventures, hiking related content, and to connect with fellow outdoor enthusiasts.
