I learned how to nålbind in 2012 and started teaching students taking a first-year college seminar with me in the fall of 2015. I started making these videos for the students in the class, but continued making some more because I enjoy breaking down the process so that I can understand it better. I hope you find these videos helpful!
Unlike many nålbinders out there, I didn't learn the common stitch names. Instead, I learned the stitch I demonstrate here in a Norwegian folk art class taught by Kate Martinson at the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum, and I'm not a big fan of the Kaukonen method of indexing stitches. (This classification system works for many people, so I am not speaking ill of it—I just prefer to experiment on my own and figure out what works best for me!). So, if you're looking for a nålbinding channel that breaks down a bunch of different stitches, I encourage you to go look at the many other excellent nålbinding resources out there!
