The Vlachs (Aromanians/Cincars) originate from ancient Greek tribes of Epirus, Thessaly and Macedonia, and mountain chain Pindos has always been their birthplace. During the Roman Empire, they served the Roman Legions and learned Latin (200 B.C -400 A.C) and thereafter they speak, along with the Greek language, a Greek-Latin idiom, which is only oral and not written. The word Vlach, basically, means Latin-speaking .
