Congratulations to our retina specialist Dr Sandeep-
His image got selected in the Royal College of Ophthalmologists publication, Eye.
The image demonstrates an isolated, non-syndromic and uniocular optic disc coloboma in a 13-year- old who visited Shroff Eye Centre for exotropia evaluation. Examination revealed a type P optic disc coloboma (lda Mann classification) with eminent intercalary membrane. The Intercalary Membrane represents a transition zone of retinal layers into a non-descript fibrous tissue and is the zone of least resistance also termed Locus Minoris Resistantiae. The blood vessels seem to emerge from the edge of the colobomatous disc resembling a cilioretinal vessel. Ocular coloboma has a wide spectrum of clinical presentationm
A thorough ophthalmic examination is recommended for early detection and follow-up of isolated colobomas and associated retinal detachments.
As a tertiary referral central for ophthalmology, we see a lot of cases. Our retina team regularly treats so kind of cases- simple and collect. Happy to be sharing knowledge and learning along the way!
