Grief has no timetable.
It isn’t linear.
It cannot be calculated,
Or controlled.
Grief is the ocean.
The wilderness.
Grief is a knife in your back and a breathtakingly tender reminder of what was loved when you’ve gotten so busy you forgot it was lost.
Grief is done together,
And alone.
So alone, so lonely.
Yet it is what connects us all.
None escape it. All will grieve.
We all share loss.
You do not get to say what your grief will be.
How your grief should go.
Or where it shall take you.
The path through this wilderness, the current this ocean floats you is yours and yours alone.
Who am I to say where you will fall when the bottom drops out and your heart cracks into one million pieces? Who am I to tell you how to put it all back together?
Broken hearts are not puzzles. There is no map. There is only love that was turned upside down and all shook out. In the worst kind of surprise. We call it trauma.
