Bouche Fermée is an ensemble that aims to create «images», through mainly, but not limited to, music of the European cinema.
The ensemble was founded and first appeared in Thessaloniki. The repertoire mainly includes foreign and Greek composers’ film music, such as Manos Hadjidakis, Yann Tiersen, Ennio Morricone, René Aubry, Wim Mertens, John Williams, Alan Silvestri, Nino Rota, Astor Piazzolla, Zbigniew Preisner. Through bold orchestrations, with closed mouths (bouche fermée = closed mouth), the ensemble introduces big screen’s music pieces to the audience. With music being their main component, «Bouche Fermée» penetrate into the mood of each film, excerpts of which are shared with the audience. The orchestrations are an original work of Maria Gouvali, whose compositions are also included in the repertoire of Bouche Fermée.
