Hello... we could use a little help from our friends. We are going to put out an album hopefully early next year that will be a remastered album of the best live songs from 1971. Most of you know the original tape for this music was recorded on a two track tape. and even though I use the latest software to mix there are limitations to what I can do.
But YOU out there listen to music in a variety of ways ... (headphones and speakers) and when I mix a song while I use different headphones , I am never sure how it sounds to you.
Some songs we will not change as we can tell you like them just the way they are... (Light my Fire)
But when mixing sometimes it becomes a coin toss which mix to use...
However, we think the people on this channel have the best "ears" and can help us with this
So we will put up (for a little while) the same SONG/VIDEO WITH TWO slightly different MIXES and let you CHOOSE which MIX YOU LIKE BEST... if the response is good we will use the mix you choose on the new LP...
Then as we build the album over the next few months we may do the same thing with a few other songs and then put a preview on the channel of the finished album before we press it
Any other suggestions and questions ARE MORE THAN WELCOME,,,,,
we have roughly 44 minutes of music to work with
Remember we do this only for fun ...
and when is the last time anyone asked for your opinion on what music is going on an album ?
thanks and lets have some fun ...

Podcast...we made the Creation of the Trip Thru Hell videos Part 1 & 2 available on a podcast. We thought perhaps due to their length this might be better for you. We will add Part 3 to the podcast when it is ready to go.. Part 3 includes the last radio interview (different than the radio interview on Parts 1 & 2) of four of the original band members in studio with the DJ. Part 3 covers a wide range of topics from how the band evolved from the very beginning to details about how Doug set the stops(adjustments in tone) on the Hammond B3 when we recorded Cold Spider in the studio.

We are remastering and putting together the ten best songs from the 1971 live recording. Initially it will be on the streaming/download sites and then if all goes well on vinyl. We will preview the remastered versions right here as we go along ... and depending on which you as subscribers of this channel like we will put those on the album as long as we are on this long strange trip together...

If you are a drummer there is a hell of a drum solo in Bayou Jam Live... (4 am got me thinking) I personally have never been a big fan of drum solos...(this is Ken speaking only for myself from a non-drummer's perspective ) especially if they go on too long... but I liked this one and a few others that I can remember...
From my experience it is the drummer that is the heartbeat of the band... without a good one you have nothing ...the Beatles discovered this the first time Ringo got behind them and "drove the bus"... When I say heartbeat I mean heartbeat....
You have a problem if you have a heart with an irregular heartbeat, unsteady or slows down or speeds up at the wrong time.... same with drummers.... After the C.A. Quintet, I played with drummers that could not find the groove or keep a steady beat... the best drummers I played with (C.A. Quintet) for live performances took control and there was no question who was in charge.... studio recordings were a slightly different situation as you could keep doing takes over and over until it felt right.... which meant the drummer and the rest of us found the groove and stayed in it.... I personally have never used a computer or electronic "drum machine" to me that would have been like having sex with a blowup doll.... I have never tried either... just personal preference... but it must work for some people.. or they wouldn't sell them
We were so fortunate in 1968 as we had four drummers in one year..... and each one was perfect for the role we needed at the moment.... First Paul Samuels who was a wonderful tight jazz drummer type on our 45s .... he gave the songs the bounce they needed.... ( I covered some of this after one of the videos) but Paul left early in 68 ( for a prestigious art school ) .... we were just starting to get deep into recording the album and Rick Johnson showed up (still with us ).... I am not sure how Rick would describe himself but I found him to be the most technically adept and had the widest range of ability to play different types of complicated pieces of music ..... if you don't think so and are a musician.... try to learn the song Cold Spider... I had the easy part ... just sang ,,,, the other guys did the heavy lifting
Then Rick Johnson got what he believed was a better offer to join another band and left just when the album was 99 percent finished... then along came Rick Patrin . Rick played the drum solo on Trip Thru Hell Part 1.... he was perfect for part .... he also played with us live with those double bass drums for a short period.... we had a hell of a live sound with him until he broke his arm ..... same old story, ... broken heart... too much alcohol and crashed his car ... at that point I thought that drummers might be "normal" like the rest of us
And then we found Donnie Chapin... who was a hell of a kick ass rock and roll double bass drum drummer Donnie changed my mind back again that drummers really are a different breed.... Donnie is the one that plays the drum solo on Bayou Jam and all the l1971 live recordings.
If you would like me to write more things like this ....let me know.... and I will the next time I wake up at 4 am
OK time to get coffee going ,,,, there may be some typos in this ... but you will figure them out

Answer to what equipment we were playing on Bayou Jam live 1971 ... the amps were Vox with the watchdogs removed for more than the rated wattage. Four cabinets (two stacks) each containing 4 -12" speakers equaling 16 - 12" speakers gave plenty of bass for the bass guitar a 3/4 scale yellow Fender Mustang with red speed stripes. Tom Pohling had his Stratocaster and snarling dog fuzztone, a wah wah pedal with a whammy bar on the Stratocaster with 16 12"speakers. https://youtu.be/RQsgjht30WA

A note to/about our subscribers... you belong to a special community... we can tell you are serious music lovers and musicians of all ages. We appreciate each and every one of you. You did not get here as the result of corporate algorithms pushing one trick pony money making videos at you ... you got here because of who you are and the friends you have.
Presently we consider ourselves very fortunate as there are not too many of you and we can still have one on one conversations with you. We would not do this if that was not possible. We have always felt that no one is special, and yet everyone is special.... having said that...
in honor of our album being re-released again this month after 50 years, we are putting together a short video .... especially for you ... about the creation of the song "Trip Thru Hell Part 1"..... It will include at least one recording of us putting the song together in 1968 ...
We can not give you an exact date when it will go up (soon hopefully) .... as it has been a long winter, the snow is still deep, but spring is coming and we will need to get out and play in the mud.... but we will get it to you soon as we get the mud off our shoes
(re-release in April of our Trip Thru Hell album is available to pre-order for those of you that may want a copy at sundazed.com/c-a-quintet-trip-thru-hell-hellfire-r… )

The C.A. Quintet channel is a continuation of the creative impulse started by musicians/artists from Minnesota (USA) in the 1960s -1970s. We still follow a path of no rules, no fear, no envy, no meanest and are best known for our 1969 TRIP THRU HELL album.
In addition to our more well known music, on this channel you will find never before released music and information about the band as we will continue to add more in an illogical order as both time and we go by.
We recorded most of our studio music from 1967 -1973... yet have many recordings (including live material) up into this century when we were inducted into the Midwest Music Hall of Fame.
We prefer to fly under the radar as we do not do this for attention or money as that can buy a thrill at times, but never peace of mind
THE TRIP GOES ON ... enjoy it while you can

We dedicate this to Doug Reynolds, Tom Pohling, Donnie Chapin and Rick Patrin without whom this music could never have been imagined
