February recap in photos…
It’s been a very snowy winter. The largest snowfall here in the last decade.
Bane is my shadow and likes to sit on me every chance he gets.
Rip is an absolute goof.
Succotash beans I grew last year and saved.
Barn is mostly clean… gosh the cleanup we did last year was immense….
It’s been a winter of baking, hibernating and slowly going through our harvested food in our pantry.
We rehomed half our laying flock of hens (chicken math… it does add up), but we did make some friends in the process (and they went to two very good homes).

"Remembering the summer" is woven into some of the projects I do during the winter months. While I cherish the beauty of each season and strive to live slowly with their rhythms, summer holds a special place in my heart. It’s a season of warmth, vitality, and abundance—a time when the garden bursts to life, and the world feels most vibrant. Growing in the summer is more than tending plants; it’s about connection, joy, and the magic of nurturing life.
Summer lives in the jars of preserved harvests, the crafts made from nature’s gifts, and the memories of sunlit days spent in the garden. My work honors the full cycle of the year, but summer is the thread that ties it all together—a reminder of growth, resilience, and the simple pleasures that come from living closely with the land.

This year has been tough, rocky, winding road full of challenges and unexpected detours. But here we are, still standing, still pushing forward. It hasn’t been easy, but every hard moment has taught us something, every obstacle has shaped us into something stronger.
I’m holding onto hope… 2025 will be a better year. Fresh starts, new goals, and the resilience we’ve built will carry us through. Embracing the possibilities ahead. Almost there. We’ve got this.

Flashback to planting my garlic in mid-October! Now it’s tucked in nice and cozy under all the snow we've been getting! I’m already dreaming about next year’s harvest—it’s exciting to think about how it’ll turn out. I planted a lot of bulbs this year! I decided to narrow down from the 7 varieties I’ve been growing to just 4, focusing only on the ones I truly love. Even with fewer varieties, I expanded my rows quite a bit. Here’s hoping 2025 will be a stellar garlic year! 🌱🧄

Hi, I’m Amber—an ecological gardener, forager, and maker, living slowly with the seasons in rural Ontario.
With my family of five, I’m reviving a neglected property, growing and raising our own food, foraging and preserving the harvest, and making from scratch—all with grit, creativity, and a deep respect for the land. Our life is imperfect and unhurried; we do what we can with what we have.
I believe in stacking functions, low waste, cutting consumption, and responding creatively to an uncertain future—nurturing both resilience and community sufficiency. I’m crafting a seasonal life rooted in regenerative practices and old-world skills, one that resists consumer culture and honors the wisdom of slow living.
I hope this space inspires you to embrace simplicity, slow down, and explore a more sustainable way of being.
Subscribe and follow along as I cultivate a life in tune with the land.
