Wind Cave National Park was created in 1903 and is one of the oldest National Parks. Today the park protects 146 miles of cave passage in Wind Cave, the sixth longest cave in the world, including unique boxwork formations and underground lakes. Wind Cave National Park also protects 33,851 acres of mixed-grass prairie and Ponderosa Pine forest that support bison, elk, pronghorn, deer, prairie dogs, and black-footed ferrets.
