URGENT: The US Government is going to ban magnets again.

Your chance to comment directly on the ban ends March 28th, and you can do so here: safetycomment.com

Specifically, 87 FR 1260 bans all small high powered magnets except for: "research and educational products, or those intended for commercial or industrial purposes, _if they are not also intended for amusement or jewelry_."
In other words, even if the magnets are for educational or industrial use, they are prohibited if amusement is involved. They are literally regulating the fun out of magnets.

High powered magnets are hazardous to children because they can pinch internally if swallowed. It's true that strong magnets require more responsibility than many products. But it's entirely unsupported by data that magnets must either be banned for all ages, or result in a torrent of child injuries.

If you agree that the solution to the ingestion problem is better education through labeling, sales methods and community awareness, aside from commenting at the link above, spread the news while you still can to others who care about magnets (or even just freedom of choice). Every magnet youtuber needs to know that:

β€œThe US Feds are trying to BAN magnet balls, even for adults.
If you like recreational magnets, now's your chance to say something. Make sure magnet fans know before it's too late, pass it on. #LegalizeMagnets”

And if you're not sure what to comment on safetycomment.com, here are some leads:

-The response to under-enforced toy safety laws shouldn't be to also ban recreational magnets for adults.
-Safe magnet use means informed consumers, not a non-consensual ban on recreational magnets. β€œ
-I'm a [x] year old [student/man/woman/office worker/technoking/etc] and have no children, why exactly am I not allowed to have these magnets?
-I'm a parent, and am perfectly capable of deciding which [rooms/spaces/products] in my house are and are not for children.
-β€œThe 2022 magnet ban is even weaker than the overturned 2015 magnet ban, as there's now no reliably sourced data on how many magnets were actually sold, the injury trends correlate with CPSC enforcement efforts (and non-efforts) more than rule promulgation, and there's an alternative voluntary standard that requires child resistant packaging and very strong warnings.”
