This program series shows how netting is made using a technique known as the Flying Dutchman. It is a skill that is easily understandable and is influenced by net making craftsmen of the northern gulf coast of the United States including southeastern Louisiana, and the coastal areas of Mississippi and Alabama. While most of the series is relevant to sport fishing, it also incorporates art and design applications. This program is planned to start with a basic understanding of net making and advance to more complex areas including trawl design, abstract net concepts, and how to use monofilament for use in making netting. Later series planned will show the use of these materials such as fishing and its contributions to local cuisine.
