Not a video I'd ever hoped to make.
Today's been quite the shocking day as former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot and killed while campaigning in Nara. I've made a video on Abroad in Japan today giving an overview of how it happened.
Sadly the video got age restricted so it may not be visible to many of you on the platform.
Head over to the video page on Abroad in Japan and you'll be able to find it there guys.

Ever wanted to see just how healthy and nutritious my convenience store lunches really are.
This week Tokidoki Emma and I buy our favourite 7/11 lunches and swap them to find out what you can buy for $20 and to see who has the best diet. I just hope Emma likes fried chicken.

Having now been to Sapporo in both summer and winter, I have to say I prefer the winter. Despite the heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures, the atmosphere of the city, the people, the food and the cosiness of every bar and izakaya you walk into, adds up to an experience unlike any other found in Japan. If you ever get the chance to go in February, I can't recommend it enough. You can watch the episode of our trip to the city next week!

Happy New Year everyone! A huge thanks for following Abroad Perspective - the peppy, overexcited younger brother of the Abroad in Japan channel; I'm looking forward to turning this channel into a hotbed of experimental filmmaking and experimental filmmaking in 2020, and surprising you all along the way. But for now, enjoy New Year's and we'll see you on the other side!

Welcome to Abroad Perspective!
7 years ago I started the Abroad in Japan Youtube channel in a tiny apartment in rural Japan, with walls so thin I could hear my Japanese neighbours daily arguments, which to be fair, no doubt aided my acquisition of the language.
From humble beginnings and incredible amounts of swearing, it grew into one of the largest resources on all things Japan and I've been incredibly lucky to experience this confusing journey of living in Japan and uncovering the culture with so many fantastic people around the world.
To me, Abroad in Japan was never about me personally though - I was merely a conduit to discovering the country and the culture. (Seriously, who the f*ck refers to themselves as a conduit?)
And despite producing over 200 videos, there's still so many stories to tell, people to meet and ramen to devour.
At the same time, as a wannabe filmmaker with pockets of empty time on my hands, I've been wanting to explore making videos that aren't always about Japan.
Maybe it's something weird I've stumbled across, an opinion I need to let out, a place I'm exploring outside the country or just more personal stories I'd like to share. It could be something risky and experimental; but above all, these are the videos that would feel out of place on the Abroad in Japan channel, but still hopefully match the entertaining and educational balance, as well as the sarcastic undertones I've always tried to stuff into each video.
I'm looking forward to rising to the challenge of building this new channel into something fun and getting back to my roots, but for now, keep an eye out from here on in for more regular content (ie. subscribe!).
And as always folks, thanks for watching! Let's go.
