This is possibly the last update for a little while. I've finished my winter upgrades and the last thing on the list was the rear brakes. I've now fitted the full 420R race brake kit on the back with AP calipers and vented discs. The car should be able to stop as well as it goes, just like the old one did.

The other last job I did was to fit a new replacement tonneau from Westermann. I was planning on having my old one repaired but it was more cost effective to just replace it. I also refined my non-destructive fitting system. The fit is.. decent. It would be a mission to improve on this and it would cause other problems, and really the end result is pretty awesome as it is. I love the look and even more I love the enclosed feeling when driving the car.

Soon I'll be taking the car to have the brake bias lever and brake pressure sensor fitted, and a full corner weighting and geometry session. Then it'll be ready to go just as soon as the weather is 😎

Time for another quick update on the new Caterham from the weekend. The mechanical upgrades are in full swing with the steering rack replaced with my old 22% quick rack (freshly rebuilt), a softer 'blue' front anti-roll bar, and new front brake discs with Pagid RS14 pads.

I also replaced the LH upper ball joint to match a new one on the RH side. It fought me most of the afternoon unfortunately but it lost the battle in the end 💪

And I bid a final farewell to my old Caterham as I watched it leave in the back of a van, off to start a new adventure with a new owner. I can't imagine what my life would be like if I hadn't bought that car when I was just 22. Amazing where those types of decisions lead us. It will be missed! 🫡

Next weekend: upgrading the rear brakes!

That's a wrap on another busy weekend doing Caterham jobs 💪

I've managed to get my carbon half doors and tonneau fitted at last. There was a lot of head scratching and trying of different ideas. They don't fit as well as they did on the old car and I've been determined not to drill any holes in this new car, which has made the job much more difficult. But I'm happy now and it really makes the car seem more like MY car and closer to how I had the old one.

But wait, there's more!

I couldn't leave my VBOX video overlay with the old Caterham gauges could I? Absolutely not. So I've made new ones to match the new car and for something I don't do very often I'm chuffed with the outcome. This year's onboard video is going to look next level.

Next up: mechanical upgrades! 🙋‍♂️

I've been busy taking care of some small but important jobs on the Caterham recently, starting with removing the heater and installing my Odyssey battery.

Then it was on to installing the VBOX data logger and when I took the passenger seat out look what I found! I wonder who it belonged to.

What followed then was a few days of wiring chaos and squeezing myself into awkward shapes to get under the dashboard. I'm really pleased with how it's turned out though and it's logging various parameters from the ECU which was a bit of a journey to get working. I even reorganised the dash slightly and added a proper power switch for the VBOX, as well as a USB Type-C port for logging to USB sticks.

Last but not least I've started looking at fitting my carbon half doors and tonneau. It doesn't look like it will fit together as well as on the last car due to how the new roll cage works but hopefully it will be good enough...

And that's that.

I've spent the last few days on and off stripping down the old car. Everything is removed that I want to keep or move on separately to the chassis, and the engine has already gone to its new home.

I'm looking forward to getting some space back in the garage that's for sure 🙂

Happy new year everyone, let's have an amazing 2025!! 🎉

Today's been interesting. And unusual. A bit surreal I suppose. I never imagined I'd be cutting the back of my car off and taking it to the recycling centre, but here I am. It's all going well so far and it's actually quite fun.

Looking forward to finishing stripping the car down for one final time.

Tribute video going live on Christmas Day. Hopefully 😅

Happy holidays!

I've started taking the old car apart for the last time. It's bittersweet because it's familiar and enjoyable but knowing it won't go back together again is strange. I'm sure it will be good for closure.

I'd like the engine to go first - reach out if you're interested.

The next video will be a short tribute to the old car covering the last 17 years it spent in my care. Coming soon!

Today I've been fitting the first proper upgrade to the car - official Caterham LED rear lights. It's a really good kit and the accompanying instructional video covers just about everything you need to know.

I'm very happy with the result. I think it looks great and suits a modern Caterham really well. They're significantly brighter and less weight, and as an added bonus for my car, I now have a reverse light and no longer need the separate rain/fog light 😎

Here's a small upgrade/change I've made to the car today. I've been following other owners' comments about replacing the standard air box with a simple filter to improve the intake sound. Apparently it doesn't impact performance even though it's not drawing air directly from outside the engine bay anymore. My old car worked the same way and didn't seem to mind.

And the result is: I can't hear any difference whatsoever with my ear plugs in! But there's no obvious drop in performance either, so maybe it will stay for now...
