7. Blood
8. Bilirubin
9. Urobilinogen
10. Leukocyte esterase (white blood cells)
11. Nitrite
12. Microscopic examination (sediment analysis)
A urine RE can help diagnose and monitor various conditions, such as:
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Kidney damage or disease
- Diabetes
- Liver issues
- Kidney stones
- Bladder or kidney inflammation
- Hormonal imbalances
- Pregnancy-related complications (e.g., preeclampsia)
The test is usually performed on a midstream urine sample, and the results are typically available within a few hours.
Here are some normal reference ranges for urine RE:
- Color: Yellow or amber
- Clarity: Clear
- Specific gravity: 1.005-1.030
- pH: 4.5-8.0
- Protein: <150 mg/dL
- Glucose: <130 mg/dL
- Ketones: <5 mg/dL
- Blood: <5 RBC/HPF (red blood cells per high power field)
- Bilirubin: <0.5 mg/dL
- Urobilinogen: <2 mg/dL
- Leukocyte esterase: <5 WBC/HPF (white blood cells per high power field)
- Nitrite: Negative
- Microscopic examination: No abnormal cells or casts
