MATTHIAS SCHLECHTER (Pianist, singer, composer, born 1978 in Hamburg)
By the time he was five, Matthias Schlechter was already composing complex harmonies in his head. At the age of ten, he stumbled across the boogie woogie and rock’n’roll piano genre and fell in love with the rhythmic bass lines and infectious melodies. He taught himself to play the piano and gave his first public concert at the age of just thirteen. He has won two soloist prizes in national music competitions (Best Boogie Woogie Pianist), along with four band and special awards.
Matthias Schlechter loves fusing soul, gospel, swing and pop in the heat of rock’n’roll. He still doesn’t read music but plays by ear and pure feel. He has played numerous concerts with stars of the blues and jazz scene such as Bill Ramsey, Vince Weber, Axel Zwingenberger, Abi Wallenstein, Gottfried Böttger, Louise-Clare Marshall (UK), Caro Josée, Thomas Natschinski, Ladyva (CH) and many more. He has also brought out eleven CDs.
