I see these kinds of comments under every video. While I usually just keep scrolling and reading the positive comments and comments talking about the model I‘m presenting, this time I want to share my thoughts on this.
These comments here are all from one video. Posted just hours ago. While most people are really supportive and appreciative and I like to skip the negative comments when they’re not constructive criticism and thoughts I can get behind, I just don’t get people who CONTINUALLY comment about my accent. Yes, I‘m German. I have a German accent. If you don’t like that, don’t watch the videos. Wait for English speaking fans to build the model and review it. But please don‘t be annoying in the comment section. This only takes away the attention from what we’re all here for and that’s the incredible work that fan designers put into the models. While I do know that mispronounced ships or characters can be triggering, I watch most of the stuff in German, that’s why I sometimes don’t know the correct pronunciation and just think I’m correct, please excuse that. One comment correcting me is enough I think, though. I know I‘m in a really cool position to be doing this but it was also really frightening when I started because of exactly that. Not sounding like a true native English speaker. It’s still somewhat an insecurity. That (and because I don’t want to forget anything) are the reasons why I mostly skript my videos to this day. But I‘m getting better and want to do vlog style content in the future too, to practice but also because I just like to watch this style of content myself.
And while it’s the minority of viewers that I’m talking about and the vast majority is kind-hearted and maybe even appreciative of a non-native English speaker trying his best to present these builds, to the ones who do mind my accent more than the LEGO stuff I present:
You speak English because it’s the only language you know, I speak English because it’s the only language you know. I do this in English so you can understand it. If my accent triggers you, don’t watch the videos.
I will be deleting these comments from now on to not distract from the LEGO models. Again, if it‘s constructive it‘s encouraged but if it’s just making fun of my accent, it’s unnecessary. I hope I‘m not being too serious about this.
Sorry for this negativity everyone, I still love y’all to death and am super proud and grateful to be able to do this ♥️
