Johan studied saxophone at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam.
Since the formation in 1982, he is primarius of the world famous Aurelia Saxophone Quartet, for whom he wrote many arrangements and received many prices. In 1988, the Aurelia's won the Edison , a prestigious price for the best CD recording of that year. With the Aurelia Saxophone Quartet, he made 10 CD's.
He is also a member of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble(NBE) and a freelance musician with many Dutch Orchestras (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic and others)
He is a freelance soloist of chamber music and professor of saxophone at the Conservatories in Enschede( www.artez.nl ), Utrecht( www.hku.nl ) and Rotterdam(www.codarts.nl)
Johan is endorser for Selmer saxophones and Rico Reeds. And he plays on Paraschos wooden necks.
