Riya loved the rainy season. She loved the sound of the raindrops on the roof, the smell of the wet earth, and the sight of the colorful umbrellas on the streets. She loved to splash in the puddles, catch the raindrops on her tongue, and make paper boats to sail in the water. She loved to watch the rainbows in the sky, and imagine what was at the end of them.
But this year, the rainy season was different. It rained too much, too often, and too hard. The streets were flooded, the schools were closed, and the power was out. Riya's parents were worried about their crops, their income, and their safety. They told Riya to stay indoors, and not to play in the water. They said it was dangerous, and that there could be diseases, snakes, or landslides.
Riya was bored and sad. She missed her friends, her teachers, and her fun. She missed the sun, the breeze, and the birds. She missed the joy of the rainy season. She wondered if it would ever stop raining, and if things would ever go back to normal.
One day, as she was looking out of the window, she saw something that made her smile. It was a small, yellow flower, growing in a crack on the wall.
