CHACĂN pays tribute to the salsa pioneers of the 1950s to 1980s and interprets with passion, respect and gratitude a selection of the most beautiful and also lost salsa classics of that heyday.
With a broad brass front, powerful percussion and charismatic singers from Latin America, the band creates an explosive energy reminiscent of the boiling clubs of the Nuyorican Latin scene of the Palladium era.
The electric guitar - instead of the conventional piano - leads the montunos, creating an unconventionally rugged twang, which is rarely seen in standard salsa-orchestras.
Musical influences come from the old pioneers such as Bobby Matos, Playa Sextet, Sonora Ponceña, Rafael Labasta, Ray Barretto, Pete "El Conde" Rodriguez, Ray Perez, Mongo SantamarĂa and HĂ©ctor Lavoe.
