Monjul Baruah’s directorial ventures have been tied with several national award winning films. His first feature film, ‘ANTAREEN ( QUEST OF SANCTUARY)’ won three best feature film awards. The film also bagged the first Sailadhar Baruah Film Award in 2016. Baruah was also awarded as the Best Debut Director for this film at the 7th Assam State Film Awards, 2016. His second feature film ‘KAANEEN ( A SECRET SEARCH)’ won the award for Best Screenplay at the 8th Assam State Film Awards, 2018. The third film, ‘ANUR (EYES ON THE SUNSHINE)’, is based on a story by Anuradha Sharma Pujaree, about a sensitive widow torn between her real world and the world she longs to escape into.
Besides, Monjul Baruah has directed several documentaries like ‘ALONE IN THE COMBAT ZONE’, and ‘XENOPHOBIA’ which have garnered much appreciation. His latest documentary, ‘POROBHAT’ is on the life and works of Sangitshree Prabhat Sarma who dedicated his life to reviving the folk culture of Assam through music.
