What is this CoronaVirus? Understanding Devi Mahatmya Chapter-8
The mighty battle of दुर्गा Durga (Moon Goddess) with the असुर Asura शुम्भ Shumbha and निशुम्भ Nishumbha, is constinuous like the blood (Moon) fighting the various diseases in the body. This blood comes from mother, so Durga is the mother goddess.
Rambhasura, king of demons and the father of Mahishasura became the terrible demon "Raktabīja" lit. blood-seed. Raktabīja was empowered with a boon that if his blood dropped, a duplicate Raktabīja would spring up. Everytime he was injured, numerous Raktabīja would spring up and start fighting with Durga. A stage came when Durga had expanded into the ferocious Chamunda form along with the other matrka [asta matrka - Narasimhi, Vaishnavi, Kumari, Maheshvari, Brahmi Varahi, Aindri, Chamunda] and still together they could not defeat Raktabīja.
The battle was at a very critical stage when the most terrific form appeared - She was darkness Herself capable of destroying all the worlds - KALI. She opened Her mouth in khechari mudra and covered the earth like an armour. Every drop of blood of Raktabīja that fell on it She drank with rupture. Soon Raktabīja shrivelled and died. All the blood of Raktabīja was maddening - She went into a dancing frenzy and started killing every creature. Just like a medicine which kills the terrible disease but also the creatures it was meant to protect!
Shiva, the protector of all, turned Himself into a baby - like a monsyllable "omkara" mantra and lay Himself on Her path. On seeing the divine baby, She suddenly stoped and started cuddling the baby to make it stop crying. Her motherhood has been invoked and the Kali aspect turned into Gouri. Once again Shiva had achieved the impossible with the omkara.
