in the future - u will be able to do some more stuff here,,,!! like pat catgirl- i mean um yeah... for now u can only see others's posts :c
2024 was my first year popping up on YouTube with my guitar, eccentric humor, and dinosaur tech skills. I've already learned a lot, and the most rewarding part has been the fellowship, interesting discussions, and feedback.
I try to limit watching my own videos, because that's a cringe-worthy experience in general, but documenting my playing through videos does give me an opportunity for self-assessment. During 2024, I spent a lot of time working on outside harmony ("wrong notes" as we call it around here haha) and working on my rhythm and sense of timing. While I definitely added some tools to my toolbox, all my 'outside' playing ultimately produced a result that I am unsatisfied with.
Frankly, some of my jams/improv focusing on outside playing produced some unpleasant guitar playing LOL. Part of the disconnect is I'm not yet at the level to employ some of the more challenging harmony effectively. Another part of this was my ongoing efforts to improve my timing, but there are plenty of instances where I executed what I intended, and even in those instances, I don't find it produced good music.
This is definitely not a 'woe is me' outlook, as I firmly believe that missing the mark is an essential part of growth. If you aren't challenging yourself enough to fail sometimes, how hard are you really trying?
With that in mind, I've already shifted my focus to playing more melodically which will also be more diatonically. I will concentrate on using timing, intervals, and phrasing to create compelling improvisation, instead of ham-fisted weirdness. If some outside playing comes out, I hope it will be well-placed and musical. And more importantly, I hope to continue to progress to a place where the harmonic adventure comes out of the toolbox naturally, because I have leveled up to a place where the 'wrong notes' come out at the right time.
I'll make a video in the future telling more about how I arrived at this direction, and of course it will be interesting (and hopefully fun) to see how it develops over the next year.
And, I donāt want my little corner of YouTube to be all about me. The coolest part of my experience getting started so far is getting to talk all things guitar while laughing and having fun with my people. I say āmy peopleā because my style, delivery, and interests arenāt for everyone, and those of you who have engaged in the fun are on the same right side of crazy as me haha.
Letās have some fun with guitar and help each other enjoy the musical journey in whichever way each individual chooses. Or you can always just watch me play clams and weāll laugh together.
Thank you to everyone who has made the beginning of GuitarVacation so rewarding. I hope can make this YouTube hole in the wall rewarding for all of you as well!

I've been working on a video, complete guitar bro-science nerd out, on a well known pedal, and it's merits or detractions as far as an option for the elusive fusion "Liquid Lead Tone" that I spend way too much time chasing. It's a pedal we all know, but is somewhat polarizing.
I've done the bulk of the work for the vid, but I'm not satisfied with the audio quality. I'm ironing out and issue with screen recording Logic Pro because I plan on showing real time EQ comparisons (told ya it was going to be a complete nerd out haha). Anyway, I was running into a phase issue with the audio when screen recording, but I think I have it ironed out. So you can look forward to a GuitarVaction Liquid Lead Tone episode soon. And it will have the audio quality you have come to love on this channel, consisting of me blabbering on a a mic with 60 cycle hum in the background. Sound Good?
Until then, here's a pic of my dad, as I've mentioned him many times on vids and streams. We get in trouble for disappearing into his guitar room and jamming at family gatherings. He can definitely take credit or blame for the guitar playing you hear from me. I admire him in many ways, but as a guitar player, it's pretty dang cool to see your dad playing more than ever after retirement and all that. He has gear acquisition syndrome as bad as me, but he's not a pretend guitar player that just plays in his bedroom. Dude is playing out every week! Pretty awesome.

A place for all things guitar. Music theory, guitars / gear, practice strategies, favorite players, and anything else guitar Neanderthals like me like to talk about.
Iām posting some of my journey in pursuit of becoming competent at jazz, fusion, and a better musician. I donāt want this channel to be all about me, though, I encourage players of all levels to join in on the āGuitarVacation.ā
Like most guitar players, I started playing as a kid because I wanted to rock and shred like my heroes, so thereās plenty of room for rock, blues, metal, songwriting, and any other style.
The only music I canāt discuss is Praise & Worship because I spent too many years listening to Slayer. Kidding of course, everyone is welcome here.
Bring your sense of humor, your knowledge/experience, your questions in pursuit of your own musical journey, and letās have a good time with a guitar in our hands!
