I am passionate about West African djembe music and have been learning since the year 2000 (3 of which I spent learning and playing in Guinea Conakry and The Gambia). I post video lessons detailing my search for the perfect slap and tone on djembe. Recently I have starting posting what I call 'solo rudiments'. By teaching the techniques that commonly occur in traditional solo phrases in isolation I give people the tools they need to be able to understand and play such phrases. I have had great success using this style of teaching with my students.
I run African Drumming Sheffield and try to teach well and pass on the music I have been taught by Maitre Samsou, Iya Sako, Nansady Keita, Seckou Keita and many other great West African djembe folas.
