#Teens
#WorkingMoms

Naturally, as parents, we love our children and want them to be happy. However, once they become teenagers, things seem to change. Suddenly, the happy, carefree days of childhood turn into one moody day after another. Yes, teenagers are notoriously moody. Lots of teens often feel confused, frustrated, and miserable.
.
.
Everyone have story!
Here's mine with my teenage son.
.
.
He was diagnosed with ADHD around the age of 9, he has always displayed hyperactivity.

I always figured because he was a BOY, However, it stared to have a negative impact while in school, causing his grades to slip, and his behavior to become overwhelming at home and at school.
.
.
He became very rude & disrespectful to not only me but his siblings & teachers as well.

📌back talking
📌slamming doors
📌refusing to cooperate when asked politely
📌screaming/shouting/yelling

Along with the pressures of becoming a teen, the only boy in the house & no male figure to really look up to, he started following his friends. Seeking them for advice. Getting into all types of trouble.
.
.
The disrespect became more then I could bare.
I had tried everything that I knew as a parent to do.
I was to the point where I wanted to send him away to a boys home. However, knowing my son that could of went many ways. He’d enjoy being around troubled teens, he would get too deep in a life that I KNOW he wasn’t built for, or he would recognize his wrongs and right them.
.
.
My sweet, mamas boy had turned into a mean, mama hating machine.
.
.
So I made the choice to send him to my moms house to be around a MALE (my stepdad) for one month. Just so he could see how it felt to be away from home and that the grass wasn’t greener on the other side.
.
.
During this time; it allowed me to connect more with my 3 daughters. One in which will be a teen as well this year.
.
.
Once my son returned: The first week was rough… I had make some changes as well. I had to remind myself he is growing up, he needs a male perspective something I can’t give him.

✨LONG STORY SHORT✨

I decided to implement 4 Daily Habits to open my heart and mind in order to best support my teenager. Here are the steps I have taken:

📌 Remember your role. Moms and dads have the tendency to either behave like their kid’s boss or to try to become their best friend. None of these extremes serve as a good foundation for the development of teenagers.

📌Talk less, listen more. Holding (emotional) space and active listening, especially when used with our close ones, are habits that take some practice to master.

📌Provide privacy. Chances are that your teen is engaging in a lot of activities that they want to keep secret from you. Not, necessarily, because those activities are shameful, wrong, or illegal, but because your child is practicing independence and needs you to trust that they can handle some parts of their own.

📌Communicate clearly. Communication holds the key to a good parent-teen relationship.
.
.
Still Lost? I can help…

WHAT WILL YOU IMPLEMENT FOR A BETTER BOND/ RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR TEEN TODAY?
