This channel is about the history of Shebahonaning (Ojibwe for canoe passage). It is located at the entrance to the North Channel of Georgian Bay, in the Robinson Huron Treaty area. Our First Nations families are Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi. Our non-Native families are from diverse ethnic backgrounds. We all care about our community and love the beautiful natural environment in which we live. Today, Shebahonaning is more widely known as Killarney, Ontario.
Shebahonaning is pronounced jii-bon-an-ing (with the emphasis on "bon").
