The Romero Institute is an interfaith nonprofit law & policy center based out of Santa Cruz, California. Our President and Chief Counsel Daniel Sheehan, along with our Executive Director, Sara Nelson, have been working on social justice issues for over 40 years; as co-founders of the Christic Institute they litigated Iran-Contra and Karen Silkwood among other landmark cases. Over the past 10 years the Romero Institute has worked to return Lakota foster children in South Dakota to their families and tribes, and are now heavily involved in the NoDAPL Water Protector court cases. We are also working to reduce the carbon pollution causing global climate change, advocating for Monterey Bay Community Choice power and working with the Monterey Diocese to help their churches and schools go "green."
