Hey everyone!

While you may know me best for my VR meets Education videos... you will probably not be surprised to know that a variety of games have applications towards making learning more fun!

I hope you'll check out my new Vodcast "Plotting", which will release new episodes on this channel every Tuesday!

Plotting is a Vod/Podcast put on by myself and my best friend, Adam. We're both educators and life-long gamers, and we're going to be discussing "Gaming, Education and everything in-between" in these weekly shows.

Tomorrow (Friday) at 5 AM EST we will be releasing our first two episodes on this channel!

These episodes:

"Episode 1 - Teacher/Gamers" and "Episode 2 - Alternative Groups"

Will give you a full taste of what it's all about. We'll be discussing video games, board games, tabletop RPGs mixed with a healthy dose of modern education discussion.

I will still be releasing VR videos as we continue, especially now that the school year is started up, and we're definitely going to have a future episode focused 100% on that topic.

Can't get enough?

Episode 3 "Lessons Learned" will be released Tuesday, November 10th @ 5 AM EST.

Summer Vacation has officially begun!
.
If you didn't see, I was on a discussion panel for "CPDinVR", an educational VR PD. It was like being on a VR talk-show using Engage!
.
I was joined by a few other big guests:
Michael McDonald of GoldLotus (a VR language learning program) & Wendy Martin, a teacher that has been teaching in VictoryXR (Another VR program)
Here's the link to the video:
.

.
(Start at 5:41 to see past the set-up)
.
If anyone is interested in seeing me tell more about teaching and VR, I have another presentation coming up in AltSpace VR on June 30th.

So one of my students recommended Sea of Thieves, and since we're about to begin our "New World" unit in History class / Summer Vacation is about to start... I'm planning a couple of Let's Plays after work today!

It'll my first non-VR game that I'm doing on this channel, but it looks fun. Probably isn't going to fit into my 'educational' category though. I hear it wasn't great at first, but I think there's been a couple of years of updates since release. Anyone have thoughts on it?

I collaborated with a High School Computer Science teacher recently to teach a mini-lesson on the Scientific Revolution! In this Proof-of-Concept lesson, we're testing out a Rec Room (VR) based student participation focused lesson focused on introducing Scientific Revolution vocabulary. Since we are currently meeting at distance, Tyeron (the high school teacher), and I collaborated to test it with several guest students who all own a VR headset. I don't think it is as effective as it could be in this video format. Instead, I will probably use this next year as a station for a group of students to explore together and do together in class using Oculus Quests.

This would be a fun launch into the Scientific Revolution world, by this time of year, students would be familiar with the Maker Pen from Rec Room and able to make 3D 'illustrations' of the words.

This video best matches the California Social Science Standard of:
CA.SS.7.10 - Students analyze the historical developments of the Scientific Revolution and its lasting effect on religious, political, and cultural institutions.

Overall, I think the lesson went super well! I don't feel like it translated perfectly to video because A) it's more designed for participants to learn the material and B) filming things in VR live can be difficult with all the moving parts. It was like acting in a TV show and being the main camera-person simultaneously. We ended up cutting this together from 2 of the participants, as well as some footage filmed before/afterwards.

For teachers that want to know about the format, our lesson plan broke down as:

1) Students went on a scavenger hunt to find the holotars/holograms explaining each vocabulary word.
2) Students came back to the board, 'collecting the word' and explaining it verbally to the teacher.
3) Students made 3 dimensional models of the vocabulary words using the MakerPen.
4) Students did a gallery walk of the vocabulary words and worked to determine what each drawing represented.
5) Finale of students seeing a hologram of Copernicus, Galileo, and Descarte.

Storyline: "Hey kids, 5 to 7 artifacts of the scientific revolution were stolen from the museum, but luckily we still have descriptions of what they were from the museum curators."

Here's some additional videos of the experience:
.
Tyeron's Edit (my suggestion is to watch this one, and it's the one I attached to this post): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvxdW...
.
My Unedited PoV of the full lesson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aryli...
.
My quick edit of the lesson which includes footage from a a post-filming visit to each of the holotars that we discuss (so that you can see what the students explored): https://youtu.be/DUluDSGcbSY

Announcement: This weekend I'll be doing a Pixel Ripped 1995 "Let's Play" Marathon!

Pixel Ripped 1995 is a nostalgic gaming, meta VR Game that came out only a couple days ago. If you don't have a VR headset, but miss the 90s gaming scene, this is the Let's Play for you! Expect a bunch of videos in close sequence.

I don't know a ton about Pixel Ripped, but it's getting high reviews and I'm looking forward to the experience.

If anyone has ideas for a fun lesson that I could teach in VR, let me know! I'm happy to take suggestions from students, as well as teachers. I'm best at K through 8th grade subjects, but I'm open to trying high school topics as well.
