Hello you wonderful people.
After some feedback, I will be making a video on Mexico’s upcoming presidential election. One of the goals of this video is to make it accessible to those unfamiliar with Mexican politics.
As such, I will give a brief overview of the 2018 election. I am trying to analyze why AMLO performed so well. From my research, these are the leading reasons:
1.) Voters wanted a dramatic change from “The War on Drugs”
2.) Voters wanted a tough, anti-corruption President
3.) Voters were unsatisfied with neoliberalism, and wanted a new strategy to grow the middle class and help the poor
4.) Voters were insulted by Trump, and viewed Enrique Peña Nieto/The PRI as being too soft. AMLO was seen as more capable of fighting back and advocating for Mexican dignity.
5.) The PRD formed an alliance with the PAN. This made AMLO the true voice of the left.
6.) AMLO was no longer viewed as a Chavez-esque radical, but more so as a loving grandfather. This made him more attractive to independents.
So, what do you think? Is this an accurate analysis of the 2018 election?
