Second Skin Records was born in 1996.
The aim was to promote the more progressive and enlightened side of dance music. Specialising mainly in the breakbeat and electronica field, Second Skin put out fresh and experimental music, mainly originating from South London.
The label's performance was driven by an enthusiasm for quality music, representing only bands who shared that motivation and produced innovative and progressive material, setting their own agenda rather than following obvious trends.
The first vinyl release was ‘Quorma' by King Kooba which set the standard for all future releases. Since then, seven bands appeared on the label with over 170 mixes having been released in 34 countries. There were two regular club nights (SubStatic and The DNA Bar, Soho, London) and the Skin DJ's played at many events - the Board X Festivals, the Snowboard/Skateboard World/European Championships, the Urban Games and the wild SMP/Volcom parties particularly bring back great memories!
