The Congregation of the Cellittinnen Augustinians was founded on 19-11-1838 by a group of Augustinian sisters in the Diocese of Cologne, Germany.
The Congregation follows the Rule of St. Augustine. Our Congregation is affiliated to the world wide community of the Augustinian Order and thus we add ‘Order of St. Augustine’ (OSA) to our names. Our congregation is declared as a congregation of Pontifical right from 25-01-2011. Although the Congregation had developed and flourished rapidly, it was rooted only in Germany and Belgium. Responding to the call of Vatican II. Mother M. Cleta our Superior General extended its roots to the Indian soil in 1963. In 1966, On 20th October, we laid the foundation stone for St. Augustine Hospital, Kumily, Kerala. and this was the first mission station of ours in India.
At present we serve the Church in India in Eight States: Kerala,Karnataka,MadhyaPradesh,Andhra Pradesh,Gujarat,Assam,Odisha and Tamilnadu.
