She is a uniquely gifted & versatile vocalist who has imbibed the best of classical gayaki in her journey towards developing a distinctly individual style, one which has earned her a place among the very talented vocalist. Born in a traditional Darbhanga family she inherited the music tradition from her parents. She had benefit of training under eminent masters like Pt. Laxman Bhatt Tailang, Gwalior Gharana. She also received tutelage from Dr. Suman Yadav – a leading luminary of Department of Music, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Subsequently, she became a disciple of Padma Bhushan Dr. Shanno Khurana, the doyen of Rampur Sehaswan Gharana.

Based out of Delhi, Sushmita has done her Ph.D. in Hindustani Classical Music. She is a Gold Medalist in MA, Classical Music. Currently she is working as Assistant Professor of Music at NIFT, Delhi.
