Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation serves the community of Virginia Beach – Virginia's largest city. We manage 299 parks over 7,000 acres of land, seven regional recreation centers, including two LEED certified centers, a marina and a large athletic complex. Through an extraordinary partnership with public schools, we provide childcare at all 56 elementary schools, making us the largest and most trusted provider in the city.
Our unique park ecosystem includes beach front parks where you can dolphins; peaceful lakes and lagoons, bee-friendly pollinator gardens and a Japanese garden lined with Cherry trees. Outdoor recreation includes skate parks, dog parks, disc golf, athletic fields, outdoor fitlots, and in 2023, we opened the city’s first dedicated mountain biking trails. Our best known park, Mount Trashmore, was the nation’s first park built on an old landfill site.
