Rocketry is a great way to introduce kids to science as well as art and craftsmanship.
A model rocket demonstrates Newton's laws of motion as well as fluid dynamics, and building things with their hands helps kids develop manual dexterity and learn how to make things. They need some help when they're young, but soon they'll be able to make things on their own.
Taking a pile of cardboard, plastic, and balsa wood parts and turning it into something beautiful - that also FLIES - instills in kids a sense of both wonder at what's possible, and pride in making something cool that does something.

If you or your kids got model rocket sets for the holidays, here's a quick video on the best way to attach and fold the parachutes to your rockets.
For a lot of people, winter is a good time for building those rockets. But spring is just around the corner, and when it comes time to fly, you'll want to make sure those chutes come out and open up!

I've been trying to finish this video for a year. Today was perfect weather and the flight was beautiful... and the camera fell off of my rocket! I couldn't find it anywhere.
I should have known better. Last time I flew the Astrocam, I added some tape over the top, but I thought, no, it's probably fine.
It was not fine.
I only have one more club launch this season to finish this video. I hope the weather is good!

9 years ago today I went to my first #rocketry club launch. Living in a new place and not knowing anybody, I was actually really nervous. But it was one of the best things I ever did.
I lost the nose cone on this rocket on my first flight of the day, but other than that it was great!
