I'm considering what to do about my GPU upgrade at the moment. I'll wait for reviews on the 50-series of cards, but I'm starting to think a second hand 4090 will be the best option for me since there is no way I can stretch to a 5090. Early estimates seem to put the 5080 at about 15% faster for rasterization than the 4080 which doesn't seem like great value for a VR-specific user. The 4090 is at least double the speed of my current 3080 so that would be the way to go if I can find a decent price on eBay... at least that's my thinking at the moment.
Anyone have any further thoughts on this? What do you plan on doing when the new GPUs launch?

If you'd like to try the Pimax Crystal Light (and the wireless module for the OG Crystal), then there is a
Pimax Roadshow event in London, UK on June 5th. I'm hoping to head down there myself to give them both a try! You can sign up here: --> pimax.com/pages/roadshow

I wanted to make a quick video comparing through-the-lens shots of local dimming being enabled or disabled in the Pimax Crystal, in order to help people decide between the two versions of the Crystal LIGHT.
Unfortunately, I'm struggling for time this week, so I thought I'd post these side-by-side shots of the video I was hoping to make. These illustrate the difference as best as I'm able to capture in my less-than-ideal setup right now, but I think they show some of the subtle differences of the setting in Elite Dangerous (as shown in the images).

After feeling slightly burnt out on VR for a while, I've just ventured back into Elite Dangerous for a couple of assassination missions in the Pimax Crystal with the ButtKicker Gamer Plus for haptic feedback. It all still blows me away, and it turns out I wasn't burnt out on VR at all. I was just burnt out on forcing myself to play the wrong type of VR games.
I'm looking forward to just getting back to playing what I want to play rather than feeling like I need to play everything!

I'm currently taking a bit of a break from making YouTube videos, but still enjoying a load of VR of course! I might make some videos early next year if things happen/get released that spark my interest, but in the meantime you can always catch up on what myself, Rog and Lee have been up to in the world of VR on the RECENTERED podcast (latest episode linked below).
Have a great Christmas or happy holidays, or whatever you do at this time of year! I'm looking forward to seeing what 2024 brings to VR/AR/XR... maybe my Lynx R1 will even arrive...?

It's been a couple of weeks, but I plan on returning with some videos soon (although I'm currently a little under the weather so perhaps the end of next week will be most likely). The first port of call will be some impressions on the PICO 4. Although I'm a little late to the party on this one, I think it will be interesting to see how the PC VR experience stacks up against the Quest 3 in certain titles.

30-minutes testing the Globular Cluster PH2 headphones for the PS VR2, and I'm already a fan. The convenience of hassle-free, integrated audio should not be underestimated (although Sony seem to have done exactly that). Audio quality seems absolutely fine for most use-cases, but I'll test them in a variety of content before making a quick review video.

The SteamVR lighthouse faceplate for the Pimax Crystal has arrived, so I'll be checking out the improved tracking over the next few days and will make a video over the weekend. I'll be trying it out along with the Pimax Sword controllers, which I haven't heard great things about, so we'll see how that goes. Will Eleven Table Tennis play better with lighthouse tracking on the Crystal now?

So, No Man’s Sky on PS VR2 has foveated rendering, and by all accounts looks great. This is probably what is going to make me pick up a PS VR2. I’ve played hundreds of hours in PC VR, but to have a hassle-free experience (albeit one with reprojection) is sort of the dream (or it would be minus the reprojection)… now I just need to check my funds…

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality focused content.
I have been involved in covering the VR industry via podcasts and written articles since 2016, starting with 'VR Roundtable', one of the first weekly VR podcasts. Now, along with long-time VR community members, Flukerogi (Rog) & Dazednetic (Lee), I co-host a twice-monthly VR/AR-focused podcast called 'RECENTERED', available on the dedicated RECENTERED channel (youtube.com/@RecenteredPodcast) and audio podcast platforms!
I am extremely enthusiastic about VR and AR technology, and while I think it's impressive today, I'm especially excited about the future potential that will be revealed in the coming decades.
I am also an author of five novels, the latest of which is called 'The Memory Engine' and is focused on VR/AR technology in a light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek kind of way.
I make videos on VR-related topics I'm interested in on a semi-regular basis. There will be periods of many videos and periods of few videos.
