The Joint Economic Committee (JEC) was created when Congress passed the Employment Act of 1946. The primary task is to review economic conditions and to recommend improvements in economic policy.
Chairmanship of the Committee alternates between the Senate and House every Congress. The current chair for the 116th Congress is Senator Mike Lee (R-UT). Members include Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR), Ben Sasse (R-NE), Rob Portman (R-OH), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Representatives David Schweikert (R-AZ 6th District), Darin LaHood (R-IL 18th District), Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA 3rd District), and Kenny Marchant (R-TX 24th District).
