Assuming the Warriors reach the 2019 Finals, these are Chris Paul’s collective playoff stats against 60-win teams / eventual NBA Finalists
2012 WCSF - 2018 WCF - 2019 WCSF
2012 Spurs record adjusted for 82 games
16.7 PPG - 6.2 RPG - 6.3 APG - 2.0 SPG - 0.27 BPG
40.8% FG - 34.1% 3PT - 79.6% FT
3.0 TOpg - 3.9 fouls/game
Chris Paul vs eventual NBA Finalists alone
2018 WCF - 2019 WCSF
18.1 PPG - 7.0 RPG - 5.2 APG - 1.7 SPG - 0.36 BPG
42.2% FG - 34.2% 3PT - 77.6% FT
2.45 TOpg - 4.5 fouls/game
If one actually does hold Chris Paul to the standards of a top 5 all-time PG, it’s clear such mediocrity against the top competition is inexcusable.
Chris Paul’s worst PPG / APG / FG% in single series have all come either against the only 60-win team he faced or one of the only 2 eventual NBA Finalists he faced. Clear evidence he can only put up big playoff numbers against 2nd or 3rd rate teams.

Game 6 was Chris Paul’s only good game of the 2019 WCSF, and it was only after the Warriors’ best player was injured, and the Rockets still lost with Paul having numerous defensive lapses down the stretch that sealed the series away. Likewise, Chris Paul’s only good games in the 2018 WCF were after Iguodala was injured (6 stat-padded points in Game 1).
Looks like Steve Kerr was right last year when he said (in response to a reporter who asked him about detractors citing Chris Paul’s injury) the Warriors would have won the series sooner if Iguodala wasn’t hurt - and that’s exactly what happened this year despite Durant being hurt instead of Iguodala.
Assuming the Warriors make the 2019 Finals, this will only be the 2nd time Chris Paul has lost to an eventual NBA Finalist in addition to 2018. In neither series did Chris Paul have a single good performance against a healthy Warriors team (pre-Iguodala / Durant injuries) and his overall series stats in both were mediocre.
This proves Chris Paul’s playoff stats are enormously inflated and overrated, since the only 2 times he faced an eventual NBA Finalist he had mediocre statistical series. The only time he faced a 60-win team (2012 Spurs adjusted for 82 games) he shot 37% with 4.5 TOpg despite a solid series from Blake Griffin.
Chris Paul’s lowest APG in any series came against the 2018 Warriors (4.6). His 2 lowest FG% in any series came against the 2012 Spurs and 2018 Warriors (37% and 41%)
His 3 lowest PPG in any series came against the 2012 Spurs, 2009 Nuggets, and 2019 Warriors (12.8, 16.6, and 16.7) In the only series he faced an eventual Finalist / 60-win team he had his worst FG% / PPG / APG of all his playoff series.
In his lone WCF appearance, Chris Paul led the Rockets in no playoff stat other than fouls in 2018, and only tied Harden as the steals leader in the 2019 Playoffs. Further proving that he can’t lead a team deep as the leader and has to ride someone else’s coattails. That’s why Chris Paul always got eliminated by non-Finalist NBA teams every pre-Houston playoff run. In other words the loser Paul only lost to other losers.
He doesn’t deserve any considering amongst the top 5 all-time PGs considering his flops against the only 60-win / NBA Finalists he’s ever faced, borderline top 10 at best. If you can’t play great against the best, you aren’t one of the best.
