[Sneak peek] 7.9mil yen Kominka in Shiga - less than 1 hr train from Kyoto station. Only a 20~25min drive from Shinkansen Maibara station, this is a Kominka with a spectacular view of Mt. Ibuki. It comes with over 1,300sqm of land with the main Kominka house built in 1929, and a steel-framed garage and storage built in 1984. More photos and details on the Patreon page (limited to paid members)! This will be on the KORYOYA site later next week.

Ah, finally some time to do some video editing... Sorry for such a long absence but it's slowly turning warm in Japan and finally I have some time to put out more videos!

Thanks for all the warm messages. The northern part of Noto peninsula (Wajima and Suzu) is where most damages and casualties are, but even in Nanao city (where I am now) more than 100 houses have been reported as completely destroyed. The Machiya I own is, to my surprise, standing still and seems to be okay structurally. The glasses are shattered and some walls have collapsed. The renovation project will be put on hold before I figure out if any of the damage can be compensated through earthquake insurance. Again, my family and I are all okay, but I am hoping the rain later today does not result in any landslides in the region…

It's not the ideal start of a new year... My family are all in Nanao city of Noto peninsula to spend the new years with the grandparents. We are all okay but water is stopped and not sure when it'll become available. Fortunately the damage to my father-in-law's house is minimal and we are able to continue to stay inside the house. This earthquake was the strongest and scariest I've experienced and I only hope the damages don't get any worse... The entire Hokuriku region (Kanazawa, Fukui, Toyama, Niigata) experienced substantial damages so I hope anyone in the area to be able to stay safe and warm during this difficult time.

PS. I haven't had a chance to confirm the status for my house in Nanao city, but looking at the news I think it's probably gone.. or half gone. Hopefully the earthquake insurance can compensate for some part of the damage...

Need some hands here! Does anyone live in Kyoto city or knows anyone who lives in Kyoto that would be interested in a part time position helping with 1) video editing and 2) appearing on my videos (mainly visits to old houses in rural Japan)? The hourly pay will be between 1,200 yen to 1,500 yen depending on experience. No Japanese language skill required. It will be an interesting experience for someone looking to settle in old traditional homes in rural Japan. 😆
Please send a mail to info@koryoya.com if interested!

A quick question! How many of you are already on Discord, and would like to join a Discord group for searching and buying old traditional houses in rural Japan?

Just found a new machiya property that comes with a kura storage for 800,000yen (about 6k usd) that is not too big and not too small (land 145.45sqm). It's in the center of the Inami "wood carving" town of Toyama prefecture...such a good deal but the realtor strongly states that the buyer MUST move to this house FULL TIME after purchase... too bad for people who want a vacation home or use it as a rental property. (Of course, there is no LAW forcing you to move...) I will post the link in the comment if anyone is interested. Please only contact the agent if you are willing to MOVE there.

To celebrate the 10k sub milestone, I'm thinking to do the first LIVE chat on Jan 2nd or 3rd (JPT) when I'm over at my wife's hometown in the northern part of Japan (Noto peninsula) - What would you be interested in watching?
