In progress is a video review of a Vevor ultrasonic cleaner - which has me wondering: Do YOU use an ultrasonic cleaner? If you have the time please comment with why you use one or why not?

Abbey Bike Tools' new LL Chain Wear gauge ($45) amzn.to/3zDGlk7 is the first chain measurement tool I've seen that measures lateral chain deflection. Seems like a great idea to me so I bought one straight away and it's in my video here. It lets you check 2 things: chain length and lateral flex (that's where the LL in the name comes from), which should make it easier to determine how worn a chain is and help determine how necessary it is to replace a chain too. Speaking of chains, there sure seem to be an awful lot of drivetrain issues in the Tour this year.

I’m not in France watching Le Tour but am following on TV & YouTube. Exciting race so far! In case like me you’re as interested in the tech as the racing - here’s a great resource on the bikes, components & wheels being ridden www.bikeradar.com/features/pro-bike/tour-de-france…

One of the FAQs I answer a lot is how the Chinese wheels I've tested and reviewed compare with high end domestic wheels. If you're wondering about that, I think you'll enjoy this great wheel comparison video from Joe at China Cycling.

Do you collect anything bike or cycling-related? And if you do, please share what you collect. I'll go first: My biggest collection is head badges. I show a few in my oldest video here (apologies in advance for the poor quality, I will update this video when I can - promise) https://youtu.be/VyZKMaayZOg

One reason to build your own bike wheels (or have them built) is to switch to a rear hub that engages more quickly (5 degrees or less is quicker; there are instant ones too, see Onyx). Which raises the question, how much do you care about fast hub engagement?

Pro bike mechanic, wheelbuilder, cycling author & editor Jim Langley's tech tips, repair help, wheel building how-tos, gear reviews, tool tips and vintage bike fun.
Falling in love with bikes as a kid, I was "fixing" them & going on long rides at 10 years old. In high school I got my dream job working as a shop mechanic, leading to 20 years as head tech and service manager at shops from New England to California. In 1983 I began writing technical articles for California Bicyclist and VeloNews then was Bicycling Magazine's west coast technical editor for 11 years. I wrote three bike books including a former Amazon best-seller on bike repair. Today, I'm an engineer, mechanic and wheelbuilder for Praxis Works in Santa Cruz, CA and I write a weekly column "Jim's Tech Talk" for RoadBikeRider.com.
Thanks for watching, subscribing and commenting 🙏❤️. If you have bicycle questions, I'm always happy to help. Please comment or email at jim@jimlangley.net and I'll reply soon.
