In 1969, he was appointed Principal Flute by Music Director Zubin Mehta and served as such until he retired in 1997. He performed and recorded with the Israel Woodwind Quintet, Israel Harp Trio, Israel Flute Ensemble, Israel Flute Quartet and pianist Chanoch Gruenfeld, his long term collaborator. Active as a teacher, Uri's many accomplished students include IPO Solo Piccolo Lior Eitan and Noam Buchman, Principal Flute, Jerusalem Symphony. Uri was invited to join flute luminaries Andras Adorjan, Maxence Larrieu and Aurele Nicolet as judges of the Ville de Paris 1993 Concours de flûte Jean-Pierre Rampal.
