Elias Deis from the Holy Land Trust elucidates the deep-seated historical roots of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, highlighting challenges such as military occupation, settlement expansions, and restrictions on movement. He emphasizes the importance of addressing collective trauma and fostering mutual respect between diverse communities, including Jews, Christians, and Muslims. The Holy Land Trust focuses on transforming trauma into hope by supporting local communities, advocating for victims, and fostering resilience in Palestinian society, especially in the wake of recent conflicts.

In this circle, we will focus on learning and applying the ancient Buddhist heart practices of Upekkha (Equanimity) and Karuna (Compassion).  These heart practices will be presented for both on and off the zafu application.  These teachings come from Mugen Sensei’s book “Buddha’s Heart” and his twenty-year Theravada Buddhist teachings leading in-person retreats worldwide.

Please join Eve Marko for AGING: A Series of 8 Sessions

We’re all aging; some of us are more aware of it than others. But is getting old really bad news? What aspects of aging liberate us, free us from dead-end jobs, from worry about others’ opinions and ideas, from ambitions for fame and money, and instead challenge us to look inside more deeply, look outside for what we’ve missed in the world, simplify things, and discern more than ever what truly matters to us now?

These questions will be explored in a series of 8 sessions. Each 90-minute session will deal with one of the following sub-topics, in order. We will use James Hillman’s The Force of Character and the Lasting Life  as a basic text but will also incorporate Zen Buddhist texts and koans. Hillman is superb in enumerating “hindrances” associated with old age and seeing the treasures they conceal, for our mining pleasure.

Each session will begin with 5 minutes of meditation, I will speak to the topic for some 15 minutes using various resources, and the rest of the time will be devoted to sharing and exploration by all participants. Attendance at all episodes is recommended, but not required—so please join us.

All Session Dates:

Nov. 6th: I am old
Nov. 20th: Do I still matter?
Dec. 4th: Am I still loved?
Dec. 18th: Memory Loss
Jan. 8th: Gravity's Sag
Jan. 22nd: Awake at night
Feb. 5th: Am I still a Woman/Man?
Feb. 19th: Looking at our face
